All the aspiring candidates who wish to take admission in one of the top MBA or any MBA institute has to go through a tough selection process. The selection procedure many vary from institute to institute. Most of the institutes divide the process into two or three different stages. The first round is entrance test and most of the institute conduct entrance test in the month of January and February followed by group discussion and personal interview. The institute also gives different weightage to different rounds. Maximum institutes conduct group discussion and it plays important role in the selection process of the right candidate for the course.

This has been seen that many students start preparing for their GD round so late that they unable to clear the round. This may happen may times dues to lack of awareness about the familiarity of the topics discussed in the round or over-confidence or lack of knowledge about the preparation pattern for the GD round. Group Discussion round is not a tough nut to crack, but one must be fully prepared for the round so that they can clear the round with ease. Below we are discussing some strategies which will help you to make mark in the round.

Follow the right strategy for the preparation

Read extensively and awareness about the current topics

If one really want to excel in the GD round and want to make a good impression for what you speak in the round then you have to be really be aware and prepared over the topics that to be discussed in the round. To make an impression in the round you have to be very comfortable with the topics that are given for the discussion. If your are not much aware about the topic or have a little knowledge over the issue then you has very few things to be talk about in the round. Without much knowledge about the topics you will struggle a lot to discuss even few points. It might be possible that other prepares the same points or they may say the same before you speak. In that case you loose your chance to say because you lack the points.

One should always keep this in their mind that you could be given any topic in the discussion round. If can range from a daily issue to political, national, international, or any local issue, but you should keep always in mind that whatever topic is given to you, your approach towards the topic should be global.

Now the question arise how one should prepare for the round? You should develop a habit of reading and you should read widely and extensively. You reading should not be topic centric or just about an area but it should be wide. You must be aware of daily issues, current topics national and international, and different topics across variety of issues that will broaden your horizon of thoughts and gives a wider perspective to your thoughts. Reading current issues and following the topic with are discussed every where, is very crucial for your preparation.

Read two, three news paper every day, read different magazines over different topics and try to think over the topics or try to predict the topic over your reading that can be asked in the GD. While reading two, three or more news papers and magazines every day can give you an idea about the topics that are discussed widely every where. For example, this year the topics like: environmental and global warming, Common Wealth Games in India, Future of Indian Hockey, the re-organisation of states in the light of the Telengana agitation, the Women’s Bill, etc are relevant.

Try to make notes on the topic and try to add some relevant points to the topics you come across.
Analyzing the issues
Just having the knowledge over the issues is not enough; one should always develop the habit of analyzing the issues and calculating the sound outcomes of the issues. The top management institutes look forward for these kinds of abilities in candidates, who can analyze the issues and who can draw the outcome of certain topics. You should think and go beyond the normal opinion; you should imply logics, data and example to justify your point. You should always give example with your point this give weight to your though and help you to be more judgmental over the issue.

One should develop the habit of analyzing the things on different parameters. Whenever you come across a topic or issue or you read something ask certain question to yourself: why did this development take place? What is the basic idea or thought behind this? Whom does is going to effect and how? What will be the future of that development and how it will going to affect the masses?

Always make some handy notes of important dates, statics, data and information which ever you feel important and carry some worth with it.

Good Communication Skills and Teamwork

Good communication skills are required in every field. But for an aspiring MBA is must to have good communication skills and ability to work well with the team. This is really a good skill to build a good image among the people you come across. With effective communication skills you can express your thoughts effectively and make people understand what you want them to do. In GD round the way you express yourself and the way you make people understand your point count a lot.  You should always put your point more effectively, confidently and firmly, but never forget that your tone should not be harsh or aggressive. Do not speak irrelevant things or just for the sake of saying things always evaluate the things and then make your point. It is always suggestive that you should always speak relevant things at the right time the better you speak, the chances of getting your point noticed become high.

Team work is also important for every candidate. The better you understand others point and develop a sense of teamwork with your thoughts it gives value addition to your GD round.

Practice hard for GD round

The final tip for your GD round is that you should practice few mock GD. This may prove useful for the final and actual round. It will help you to develop the habit to speak right and firm points. The practice will increase the confidence level and hone your skills to communicate well among the group. You should not forget that while group discussion people will interrupt you- but you should learn to tackle all this and present your thoughts in an effective manner.

All knowledge that the world has ever received comes from the mind; the infinite library of the universe is in our own mind.

All power is within you. You can do anything and everything. Believe in that. Do not believe that you are weak; do not believe that you are half-crazy lunatics, as most of us do nowadays. Stand up and express the divinity within you.

Anything that brings spiritual, mental, or physical weakness, touch it not with the toes of your feet.

As soon as I think that I am a little body, I want to preserve it, to protect it, to keep it nice, at the expense of other bodies; then you and I become separate.

Do not go for glass beads leaving the mine of diamonds. This life is a great chance. What, seekest thou the pleasures of the world? He is the fountain of all bliss. See for the highest, aim at that highest, and you shall reach the highest.

Fill the brain with high thoughts, highest ideals, place them day and night before you, and out of that will come great work.

First get rid of the delusion “I am the body, then only will we want real knowledge.

Freedom can never be reached by the weak. Throw away all weakness. Tell your body that it is strong, tell your mind that it is strong, and have unbounded faith and hope in yourself.

Give up all desire for enjoyment in earth or heaven. Control the organs of the senses and control the mind. Bear every misery without even knowing that you are miserable. Think of nothing but spiritual freedom.

MEDITATION TODAY:

Do not look back upon what has been done. Go ahead! Don't look back—forward, infinite energy, infinite enthusiasm, infinite daring, and infinite patience—then alone can great deeds be accomplished.

- Swami Vivekananda.

Goahead ….!

One day I decided to quit...
I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. ..

I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk
with God.

"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me...

"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care
of them. I gave them light. I gave them water.

The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the
floor.
Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed.

But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew
more vibrant and plentiful.

And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on
the bamboo. He said.

"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I
would not quit.

In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed.

I would not quit." He said.

"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.

Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. ..But
just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years
growing roots. Those roots made it
strong and gave it what it needed to
survive.

I would not give any of my
creations a challenge it could not
handle."

He said to me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have
been struggling, you have actually been growing roots"

"I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you."

"Don't compare yourself to others." He said. "The bamboo had a
different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest
beautiful."

"Your time will come", God said to me. "You will rise high"

"How high should I rise" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise" He asked in
return.

"As high as it can" I questioned.
"Yes." He said,

"Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
I left the forest and bring back this story.

Never Give up.

Education …

Nearly a hundred years ago Swami Vivekananda showed the close connection between culture and education. Wherever there is a great culture, you will find behind it, a highly developed system of education.

Ancient India could produce a great culture because it developed a wonderful system of education.

In those days, people took education seriously. In the Taittiriya Upanishad, we find a discussion on what true tapas is.

The opinion of the Vedic Rishi is: "swadhyaya pravacana eva-eti" - "study and teaching alone" constitute true tapas. Education itself is the best tapas, that is, the best form of human effort.

According to Swami Vivekananda, the basic purpose of education is the total development of human personality. Everyone is endowed with certain capacities, which remain dormant, although in a potential form, in childhood.

Swami Vivekananda believed education is the process by which these inherent potentialities in human personality manifest themselves in completing his or her total development.

This total development of human personality includes intellectual and moral development. Most of the present day school and college curriculum only aim at intellectual development.

It is in this field that western science, technology and commerce have attained tremendous success.

Science is systematic pursuit of knowledge at empirical level. The scientific method gives a very good training to the mind. It was by applying the scientific method that western countries made tremendous advancement in technology and acquired great wealth and power.

Swami Vivekananda was one of the first among religious teachers to understand the importance of science and technology. In the first place, Swamiji saw that poor countries like India would be able to overcome poverty and backwardness only by mastering technology.

Secondly, Swamiji saw that science is not contradictory to the eternal spiritual principles, which is the foundation of Indian culture. Both Science and eternal religion are concerned with truth.

Science seeks truth in the physical world, whereas religion seeks truth in the spiritual realm. Thus, religion and science are complementary.

The other primary purpose of education is to build character and to enable people to lead moral lives. However, this is precisely the field where most of the modern systems of education have failed. Swami Vivekananda has given a new definition of morality.

To quote his words, "The only definition that can be given of morality is this: that which is selfish is immoral, and that which is unselfish is moral". For Swamiji unselfishness and service are not mere matters of rules and regulations but of reality.

If God dwells in all beings as the Supreme Self, if every man is potentially divine, then to serve God in man or man as God is the best form of worship. To quote Swamiji's own words: "It is a privilege to serve mankind, for this is the worship of God.

God is here in all these human souls. He is the soul of man." (C.W.I. 424)

Meditation for peace

Spiritual Titbits

(1) Always meditate on Sri Ramakrishna as infinite love and you will in time get over anger. Whenever you are tempted to be provoked think of Him and your anger will disappear.

Try to repeat the Mantra always mentally”all the 24 hours, even in the midst of your work. You may forget to do so but as soon as you remember, begin repeating and you will slowly get into the habit of repeating it always.

(2) Pray to the Master to give you strength to fulfill your duty successfully. He is sure to hear your prayers and make your efforts successful and this would completely change your family environment and make it blissful. There is nothing that cannot be overcome through prayers.

-Swami Vireshwarananda

[Swami Vireshwarananda was was popularly known as 'Prabhu Maharaj'. He was disciple of holy mother Sri Sarada Devi and he was the tenth president of the Ramakrishna Mission]

MEDITATION TODAY:

Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin; to say that you are weak, or others are weak.

On Mindful Work

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6669/saradadevi.gif

After someone finished her sweeping and threw the broom into a corner, Mother said, "How strange, my dear! The work is finished, and you throw it away carelessly. It takes almost the same time to put it away slowly and carefully as to throw it away. Should you despise a thing just because it is insignificant? 'Him that you save, saves you in turn.' Won't you need it again? Besides, this thing too forms a part of our household. From that point of view also it deserves some consideration. You must give each one his due share of honour. Even a broom must be shown some honor. The smallest work must be done with reverence."

"I want people here who are careful in work. There are those who perform great deeds on the spur of the moment. But one can be really known by the attention given to the details of each duty."

(From The Teachings of Sri Sarada Devi, the Holy Mother, published by Sri Ramakrishna Math, Madras, 1983.)

a small story…. from uttishta mail

There was a once a man who lived in a forest, it so happened that a tiger stumbled upon his dwelling & seeing the man in panic, went after him. The terrified man started running for his life, there were thorns & stones on the way, but somehow he kept running, right then a flash fire started in the forest, the man had to run through the fire because even his feet burned he knew that stopping would mean definite death. Suddenly the path man was running along reached its end, a cliff edge, the man fell, he was hurtling towards the river below when somehow he managed to break the fall by grabbing the root of a tree, the man looked down & saw a crocodile waiting in the waters below. The tiger meanwhile was also waiting at the edge of the cliff, the man was just holding on to the root for dear life, but the root was being bitten away on either side by a black & a white rat. Above the man was a bee hive from which honey was overflowing & the honey was falling into his mouth, drop by drop. If the man's desperate predicament rings a bell, you should know you r leading a life like his & ur situation is no better.

The crocodile with its mouth open is death, the tiger is life, the black & white rats r night & day. As the rats keep bitting away the roots get closer to being snapped & u get closer to plunging into the river with the deadly crocodile in it, the ocassional drop of honey falling into ur mouth makes u happy & in this happiness u forget death. The honey's sweetness gives u the illusion that everything is fine though it is not, the running is always there, ur legs cannot escape the heat of fire. It is also when u realise u r struck in a web of stupidity that doors of spirituality begin to open, spirituality will then automatically come ur way.

Each individual has his own understanding about life, for some life is all about good food & wine, others see meaning in emotional & material prosperity, yet despite achieving a lot people still find themselves looking for happiness. Life may give them all that they expected, but still they remain dissatisfied. Energy is immortal, it has no begining & it has no end, the decision to be with the perishable material world or immortal world is urs to make.

If ur experience of life is beyond that of the materialistic world, then u have understood spirituality, it is only then that u begin to live .......

MEDITATION TODAY:

Say ?So?ham, So?ham? whatever comes. Tell yourself this even in eating, walking, suffering. Tell the mind this incessantly? that what we see never existed, that there is only ?I?. Flash?the dream will break! Think day and night, this universe is zero, only God is. Have intense desire to get free.
